Port Revel centre

Because human error is still the main cause of accidents, our centre helps ship captains and maritime pilots get to grips with new features of ships and train to manoeuvre efficiently and safely in restricted waters.

The Port Revel centre was born of studies that Sogreah performed in the 1960s examining erosion along the banks of the Suez Canal caused by passing oil tankers as well as various mooring and shiphandling problems, and has now become a shiphandling school using scale models to train between 150 and 200 maritime pilots and ship captains each year.

The proposed training uses 1:25 scale manned models, giving a unique experience that the professionals particularly appreciate as it complements the experience they have gained on electronic simulators.

The Port Revel centre can reproduce a wide array of situations thanks to its team of instructors who are experienced maritime pilots themselves, its modular lake equipped with wave, current and wind generators and its fleet of various vessels and tugs.
The centre, recognised by the profession as being a world leader, is also a favoured meeting place for pilots from around the world.
