River basin management

River basin management

In many countries, including France, the river basin is now considered the pertinent level for planning development schemes in light of both hydrographic and human requirements. The European Union enshrined this management principle in its Water Framework Directive (WFD). France played a pioneering role in this regard, asking member states to internationalise the concept in the case of cross-border rivers. Because of our comprehensive, expert approach to water issues, we are working with many water authorities to implement the WFD across Europe and draw up river basin management plans, conducting measurement programmes and technical, statutory and economic evaluations of projects and assessing their environmental and social impacts.
